American Dad?s Roger Smith announces candidacy for president

Posted by on March 1, 2012

Fox?s American Dad! is now in it?s seventh season. Created by Family Guy creator and Comedy Central ?roaster? extraordinare Seth McFarlane, the animated cartoon ?follows staunch GOP supporter and CIA agent STAN SMITH (Seth MacFarlane) and the misadventures of his unconventional family in Langley Falls, VA.? The slapstick show has an enormous cult fan base (over 10 million Facebook likes, almost 70,000 Twitter followers and over 223,000 GetGlue check-ins).

The team behind Dad have masterminded a brand new social TV campaign to launch alien Roger Smith (by the way the family lives with an alien) as the newest presidential candidate for 2012. We scored an interview with campaign manager Alek Lev to learn more about the (alien) race to the White House and how you now have a viable choice besides President Obama and the Republican candidates.

Lost Remote: What are the social media elements of this campaign?

Alek Lev: Roger Smith stands firm in his belief that the internet is here to stay. Roger invites everyone to touch his Twitter @rogersmith2012. The official campaign site is www.rogersmith2012.com, we?re on Facebook and you can buy all the influence you want with the purchase of collectible campaign memorabilia at www.foxshop.com/rogersmith2012. We will also be blogging at the Huff Po.

LR: How is this making TV more social? Did you work with any partners?

AL: As you might know, Roger can be seen on Fox?s American Dad on Sunday nights. As for making TV more social, Roger firmly believes that if you watch his show, go to his website, and buy stuff, then you will have fulfilled your TV sociability requirements.

We are already blogging at the Huffington Post, but we?ve got a bunch of partners lined up in the wings whom we can?t talk about quite yet. We?re working on an app with a sexy sponsor, a book, and really whatever else anyone will pay us to do.

LR: What are your goals?

AL: Roger is running to be president of the United States. He wants to solves the nation?s economic woes, and the answer is simple. We should be embarrassed that in a nation of this power and wealth we have so many poor people. So, let?s deport them. Do you realize that with every unemployed person that leaves our shores, the unemployment rate goes down?! You?ve all heard one of the other leading candidates say that they don?t care about the very poor. ANYONE can not care about the very poor. But who else is willing to put them on a raft?

We have a six-state strategy. If you live in Iowa, Wyoming, Vermont, New Hampshire, Delaware or Alabama, you can write-in Roger Smith on election day. If you think that Barack Obama spends too much time wanting to ?help people,? or you think that the Republican candidates are raving lunatics, write in Roger Smith!
